THE RACE CLUB

What is the Race Club?

The Race Club was created by Ruth McKennell and Daniel Iltis under the patronage of infinite SKI’s owner, Mr Ziad Tabbara. It’s creation was sparked by Ruth who was looking for a safe and fun environment for her two children to ski in and she proposed the idea to her friend Daniel who was already training a few highly motivated children that were interested in ski racing.

Together they decided to create the region’s first ever grass-roots Ski Racing Club following the very successful models of the United Kingdom, Czechia, Austria and North America. The race club or ISRC, which started with 21 members now has over 130 members. The trainees ski in their respective training groups and collectively take up a staggering 30 hours each week at infinite SKI and another 9 hours at Ski Dubai. This is currently not enough time and so there are waiting lists for many of the popular timings.

Who is it for?

The ISRC is for children from 4 years old to young adults under 21 years old. In the race club, we don’t aim to create world cup athletes or Olympians but instead, we strive to create a love for snowsports. We focus on creating a safe and supportive environment where trainees can learn together, ski together, play together and most importantly, have fun together. We focus mainly on enjoying ourselves and developing good all-round skiing, excellent fundamentals and versatility within the discipline; within snowsports and within sport by giving trainees the opportunity to try other disciplines (SNB, freestyle, freeride, telemark) but also by recommending other complimentary sports.

How do we join?

When the ISRC first started, to join it was to be found, identified and invited. Our coaches along with infinite SKI and Ski Dubai’s staff were always on the lookout for motivated fun-loving children and young adults that might be a good fit for the race club.

As the club's popularity grew in the past few years, it is now possible to apply for a tryout session.

What’s a Tryout Session?
This is a session where the ISRC coach meets the potential member for the first time to ski with them on the revolving ski slope at infinite SKI. During this session, the coach will assess the skier’s level, personality and motivation and will then be able to propose a training group for a trial term

What’s a Trial Term?
If you’ve had a successful assessment and an appropriate training group is available with capacity, you will be offered a trial term. This is when you join the entire term of 8-10 weeks with a regular training group for a reduced rate 850dhs for 10 weeks or 690dhs for 8 weeks depending on the length of the term.

During the trial term you or your child will have the opportunity to see what the training is like, meet some of the other members, join in some of the events and get a general feel for the club to see if they’d like to continue as members. The coaches will also get to better know the new trainee and better assess whether the group is a good fit, whether the
trainee themselves is a good fit for the club and what would be the best path for them to take on their path through the sport.

At the end of your trial term, you will receive a comprehensive written report from the coach highlighting the above and recommending the next step, being an invitation to join the race club as an associate or even a full member or a recommendation to continue to develop the fundamentals under the guidance of the Academy instructors prior to retrying for
a trial term at a later stage.
